Model Cadet

Model Cadet was born in 1946 and was the son of Requested (sire) and Hedepine (dam). He began his career as a promising 2-year-old when he won the Washington Park Futurity. Model Cadet was the first Kentucky Derby entry for the Rices. He was entered in the 1949 Derby and finished 7th. Model Cadet was trained by Tom Smith and with jockey Ovie Scurlock. Ada showed high regard for Model Cadet by paying $2,250 to name him as a supplementary entry for the Preakness where he placed 7th out of a field of 9 horses. Overall, Model Cadet had 24 Starts, 6 Wins, 5 Places, 0 Shows with career earnings of $85,100.

Friends of Danada was officially incorporated on June 25, 1986 as a nonprofit volunteer organization by the State of Illinois. The purpose of the Friends of Danada organization shall be to support the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County in the administration, continued upkeep and operation of the former DuPage County estate, including Danada House and Danada Farm formerly owned by Daniel and Ada Rice, for the use, historical education, and enjoyment of the citizens of DuPage County.
